Ok, streaming and subscription services are nothing new: Spotify has been around since 2008, Rhapsody was there since 2001, Napster 2.0 since 2003. Mp3.com was free – but was compensating artists even for streaming – as early as 1999. We could add others to the list.
Among controversy over their contract for independent musicians/labels and Taylor Swift publicity stunts, It is now Apple‘s turn to get into the arena, as the much anticipated Apple Music streaming service launches on June 30, 2015.
Kutmusic will be there with most of the catalogue since the beginning: our digital distributors for iTunes (CD Baby and Feiyr, for different releases) have already been delivering content to the new service which according to some will be a rebranding of Beats and iTunes Radio together.
We’ll see if Apple manages to steal Spotify‘s crown in the streaming market or (we have some doubt about it!) if they will accept to be number 2 in this particular market.
