billieholiday-centenaryvol1-600px

April 7, 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Eleanora Fagan – known to the world as Billie Holiday.
Celebrate the Billie Holiday Centennial with a collection of classic and rare performances, including live and studio recordings spanning over 3 decades: accompained by her own orchestra or by orchestras led by Teddy Wilson, Ray Ellis, Eddie Heywood, featuring names such as Lester Young and Benny Goodman.
Inspired by Bessie Smith and Louis Armstrong, Billie became “Lady Day” – as her longtime friend Lester Young nicknamed her – and one of the greatest voices of the 20th century.
Billie never gave a bad performance – not even in the last appearances of her career, in the late 1950s: her musical legacy is a collection of milestone albums for labels such as Commodore, Columbia and Verve.
