Scott Amendola, Michael Manring, Roberto Zorzi – “Facanàpa & Umarells and the World Wide Crash”

Tre lunghi brani originali ed una insolita cover (“Colors for Susan”, composizione di Country Joe McDonald): l’incontro di Scott Amendola, Michael Manring e Roberto Zorzi genera paesaggi sonori “territori musicali visitati raramente” o “in cui nessun musicista è mai avventurato prima” – prendendo a prestito le espressioni utilizzate da Henry Kaiser nelle note al disco. Citazioni e riferimenti – più che eclettici – comprendono personaggi della Commedia dell’Arte (Facanàpa o Fra Canàpa, da Verona), anziani che passano il tempo ad osservare cantieri edili e stradali (gli “Umarells” efficacemente descritti da Danilo Masotti) e persino una dedica alla compianta Moana Pozzi.

“Le due cose che apprezzo maggiormente quando ascolto musica di qualsiasi genere sono la sensazione di sorpresa e il sentire cose che non ho mai udito prima. E’ quel che sento in questo caso. E’ come un pasto perfetto di un nuovo genere di cucina mai assaggiata in precedenza.
Per me, l’unica cosa frustrante di quest’album è che vorrei potessimo suonare tutti insieme, in quartetto, proprio ora.”

 Three long form, original tracks and one unusual cover version (“Colors for Susan”, a Country Joe McDonald composition): the musical meeting of Scott Amendola, Michael Manring and Roberto Zorzi results in soundscapes which are “rarely visited music territories” or even “where no musician has ventured before” – to borrow some of the words used by Henry Kaiser in the liner notes. The more than eclectic cultural references include “Comedy of the Art” characters (Facanàpa or Fra Canàpa, from Verona), old men spending their free time watching construction sites and roadworks (the “Umarells” – as described by author Danilo Masotti) and even a dedication to late Italian pornstar Moana Pozzi.

“The two things that I appreciate most about listening to any music is being surprised and hearing things that I have never heard before. That’s what I hear going on here. It’s like the perfect meal of a new kind of cuisine that I have never tasted before.
For me, the only frustrating thing about this album is that I wish we could all play together as a quartet, right now.”
